These energy balls are a perfect, healthy snack option, rich in protein and made with raw, vegan ingredients and, it takes 15minutes to make them!

Healthy energy balls

They contain no additional sugar, making them an ideal treat for those looking to maintain a clean diet. Packed with superfoods like spirulina, maca powder, and raw cacao, they offer numerous health benefits:

  • Spirulina is a blue-green algae known for its high protein content and rich source of vitamins and minerals, including iron and B vitamins. It has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, making it great for overall health and boosting immunity.

  • Maca Powder is derived from a root vegetable native to Peru. It's celebrated for its adaptogenic properties, which help the body manage stress. Maca is also known to enhance energy, stamina, and endurance.

  • Raw Cacao is the purest form of chocolate, which is rich in antioxidants called flavonoids. It supports heart health, enhances mood by boosting serotonin levels, and provides a good source of magnesium and iron.

These energy balls are not only a delicious snack but also a great way to satisfy your sweet cravings in a healthy way. They were my go-to snack when I was eliminating refined sugar from my diet. Even now, I enjoy them as a dessert or a post-tennis match treat.

Healthy Energy Balls

Ingredients

  • 70g raw cashew nuts

  • 70g raw walnuts

  • 70g raw almonds

  • 50g maca powder

  • 30g spirulina powder

  • 30g cacao powder

  • 5g cinnamon

  • 230g Medjool dates

  • 70g raisins or sultanas

  • 10g cacao nibs

Directions

Prepare the Nuts:

  • Place the cashew nuts, walnuts, and almonds into a food processor. Pulse for a few seconds until the nuts are roughly chopped.

Add Powders and Spice:

  • Add the maca powder, spirulina powder, cacao powder, and cinnamon to the food processor. Quick process just enough to mix the powders with the nuts.

Add Dates and Raisins:

  • Add the Medjool dates and raisins (or sultanas) to the mixture. Process everything in the food processor for a few minutes until a sticky mixture forms.

Incorporate Cacao Nibs:

  • Add the cacao nibs to the mixture and pulse a few times to evenly distribute them.

Form the Balls:

  • Scoop out approximately 50g of the mixture and roll it into a ball using your hands. Repeat this process to form about 15 balls.

Coat with Cacao Powder (Optional):

  • Roll the balls in additional cacao powder to coat them evenly. This not only adds a rich chocolate flavor but also makes them look more appealing

Chill and Store:

  • Place the formed balls in the fridge for at least 30 minutes to set. Store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week.

You can make these energy balls more exciting by adding different ingredients each time you prepare them. Try incorporating cardamom, or a few drops of mint, or chilli flakes, or rock salt to create new flavour variations. You could also bake the cashew nuts and almonds for a different texture.
